Ever thought about what you actually feed your mind? Or only what you put on your plate? For me, it was as if a weight fell off when I decided to let go of the endless loop of news, radio, TV, and other mind-cluttering noise. A weight I didn’t even know I was carrying. So I'm happy and grateful, because that shift brought a level of clarity and peace I didn’t expect, just by tuning out the noise. We’re so focused on food diets, but what about a mental diet? It’s the same principle: I just avoid what doesn’t nourish and serve me, and choose what really lifts me up.

The Importance of a Mental Diet

When I think back, it’s a bit funny. I spent so much of my life believing that health was just about avoiding the “bad” foods and sticking to the “good” ones. Turns out, there’s a lot more to it! Living healthy isn’t just about what goes in your mouth; it’s about everything that goes into your mind and the impact it has. After all, we attract what we put out vibrationally, and our vibrations follow where our focus goes.

Why “Turn Off the Noise”?

I stopped watching TV and following the news a while back. For quite some time it made me feel kind of guilty about it - "so you have no clue about what's going on in the world? - but eventually it became one of the best decisions I made for my mental health. Letting go of constant negativity made me present in a way I hadn’t been before. Why absorb stress or fear when it doesn’t serve me in any way, shape or form? That’s when the choice became even more clear: I could spend my energy worrying, or I could focus on what brings me real joy and peace.

Music as my High-Vibe Choice

When I need a little “noise” , I choose music. Listening or playing and creating, singing, it all works for me. There's loads of music that bring my energy up, inspire me, and, most importantly, make me feel alive. Music is a simple way to tune into better vibes without any stress. And once you start a mental diet, it’s amazing how much better it feels to listen to something that raises you up.

3 Practical Steps for Starting Your Mental Diet

  1. Start Small: Try cutting out one negative source for a week. Replace it with something uplifting—music, a podcast, or even silence. For example, radio often includes news bulletins or news flashes, and no matter how short they are, it impacts me. That's why I only use my Spotify nowadays.

  2. Stay Mindful of Your Mood: When your mind consumes something that leaves you feeling drained, pause and ask if it’s really worth your mental energy. Be aware of what your body tells you, it's how your inner being, your subconscious mind, guides you.

  3. Protect Your Space: Just like your physical space, treat your mental space as something worth caring for. Choose wisely what you let in and don't open the door on every knock.

For me, this mindset shift has been proof of the Law of Attraction in action. The clearer my head is, the easier it is to keep my vibe high and attract more of what I love into my life. So, if you’re looking for a change, maybe just tune out the noise, and if you do want a bit of volume, try music. Who knows? You might find that the peace and joy you’ve been seeking is just a tune away.

With love, Ruud
